Kabuto was found among the enemy dead after the Battle of Kikyo Pass.
He was found by a chief medical officer of the Konoha Medical Unit Squad who brought him back to Konoha and raised him as his son.

Kabuto was recruited by Sasori of Akatsuki at some point in time. He transformed Kabuto into a sleeper agent and sent him to spy on Orochimaru.
When Orochimaru discovered this he released Sasori’s control over Kabuto and gave Kabuto with the choice to follow him!

Kabuto pretty much obeys Orochimaru’s orders and has even saved Orochimaru’s life at times.
However, he has also been known to help Orochimaru’s enemies sometimes!
